What is the difference between Used and Certified Pre-Owned?

The main difference between used and certified pre-owned is that a certified vehicle typically has to pass a certification process which includes being thoroughly inspected by experienced technicians, and then reconditioned to like-new quality. Also, most CPO programs have a CPO limited warranty that activates after the New Vehicle Warranty expires (meaning a certified used BMW can have up to 5 years of coverage!) and additional perks that are exclusive to CPO owners. A used car from a private seller won’t have the same warranty coverage and perks as a certified vehicle, if any.

Is Certified Pre-Owned worth it?

It depends, so take it on a case-by-case basis. Buying CPO is worth it in certain cases, so make sure you evaluate just how much you can save as you shop. There are scenarios where a certified pre-owned vehicle is only a few thousand dollars less than a new car that makes a new car purchase make more sense, especially in the case of current model year certified vehicles with very little mileage. However, for a certified used car that is at least 3 model years old, you could see much bigger savings than buying new, which makes CPO a great choice if saving money is at the top of your priority list.

What does the BMW CPO warranty NOT cover?

The BMW limited CPO warranty won’t cover general upkeep as a result of regular car use, scheduled maintenance, or the repair/replacement of any non-original manufacturer parts.
